Siduri is a character in the ancient Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, which is considered one of the earliest surviving works of literature dating back to 2100 BCE. She is a wise and hospitable goddess, who resides in a tavern at the edge of the world.
When Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the epic, seeks to learn the secret of eternal life after the death of his friend Enkidu, he travels to the edge of the world and encounters Siduri. She initially tries to dissuade him from his quest, but later advises him to enjoy life to the fullest and cherish every moment, as mortality is a natural part of human existence.
Siduri is also known for her brewing skills and is often depicted as serving ale to guests in her tavern. Her character embodies the ancient Mesopotamian belief in hospitality and the importance of enjoying life while it lasts.
